FDM 3.9.7 build 1638 (2017-10-27) torrent issues.

Postby StormJumper » Wed Nov 01, 2017 6:21 am

Now with the latest update a new problem has happened. When I go to click on a torrent file in FF56.0.2 it will popup FDM but if I click cancel it goes straight to save instead of utorrent catching the torrent file to download. So what was changed that now it stop utorrent from catch the links? I know it is FDM because I "unchecked" the box for "Monitor" option and restarted FF and without it active I now get the link that utorrent catches to start the torrent process.

Its not FDM's fault, torrent files love fdm period. So they open up with it.
FDM has nothing to do with it, its just inevitable.
You should sue those torrent files
(*This is the way you are replying in my thread)

you should sue those torrent files
(Ok thats gone little overboard)

Hope you understand this time  :D

Trying to equate two unrelated problem into one is more then reveals the respondent intent. Opening a can of worm into unrelated topic is how one gets into trouble with posting rules.

Seriously your problem isn't FDM, its the torrent file and magnet link association (as per my assumption). Check your .torrent and magnet link association, it must be FDM. Just change it to utorrent and ur good to go.

While your problem is simple, mine isn't. So I came here to get some help on it.
But instead of helping me, each of your reply in my threads just meant one thing "We can't help you, get over it", without even trying to understand the real problem.

Next time you gonna say someone "its not FDM's fault" try to read and analyse his problem well

Went back to previous v3 last version before this new one and it work so I am not using the latest FDM v3 until the bug is fixed. I am using FF 56.0.2 not FF57. So anyone else with FF and FDM don't download or use v3 b1638 it will cause other software that catches the link from work if FDM is running. But in FF if you disable then the software will catch the link but if v3 b1638 is running and you cancel it - it will break the links and the browser will try to save it instead of the software that was intended to catch the link.

Dear StormJumper!

You can add the .torrent to "Skip files with extensions" and make utorrent a default torrent downloader.

So where go about that setting? I have Windows 10 and FF, Chrome, IE, Edge browsers installed. What was changed in the lastest FDM that broke this process? All I know is if you cancel the FDM pop download screen the next screen that shows up in FF56 is the "save as" screen comes up not the screen that goes directly to utorrent download. All previous FDM had no issue doing this process but now the latest FDM broke this process that happen without problem. I didn't have to make utorrent the default downloader it found it without problem.

Try again with fdm extension disabled or click the torrent link with Alt key pressed
see what happens with the latest fdm

I am using Windows 10x64 v1709 and FF56.0.02. What the problems is if you "cancel" FDM download the next windows is a "Save As" windows from the Browser but that windows has a character save name and file that doesn't correspond to previous popup windows that is directed towards utorrent since it is a *.torrent file as before. The popup that it shows has no relation to anything and can't be saved because it not a valid file format. If it ever show up again I probably need to make a screen shot of it to show what it shows if let say I go FF57 release and install FDM 1638 and problem shows up again if I download torrent file and hit "cancel" on FDM and it doesn't properly handle the right format to the right software to catch it.

Dear StormJumper!

The format in the browser is .torrent, isn't it?

No if I recall right it was ********.mkv was the file that resulted when it tried to save from the Browser. But I do know when it was working before ***.torrent was the file and utorrent linked to the file.

I wish I can recreate and make a screen shot of it but don't want to experience that again. But if I recall when the link was caught properly by utorrent it was ****.mkv.torrent was the file extension from the torrent site but when the Browser detected the link it was ****.mkv a file name with symbols and letters but the file name was scattered in that name not matching what it should be. This is if you had FDM 1638 running after you cancelled the link it detected then the problem would show up but if you disabled "Monitoring" of FF from FDM 1638 then it would work as normal clicking the link would bring up the torrent as *****.mkv.torrent and utorrent was the default program to execute the link to start the torrent process. I know this because I did disable FDM 1638 and that was how I found out about it.

I'll give you the site and you can try with any of the torrents there using FF56.0.2 and FDM 1638 that is what I used when the problem started and going back one revision of FDM to FDM 1636 had on issues when you "cancel" FDM utorrent detected the link and started the torrent process. Maybe the update broked something that FDM 1636 didn't change but until FF57 release I might try that and see if "cancelling" a FDM torrent link to see if the same error happens.

http://www.shanaproject.com/

I'll try to see if I can catch the torrent link and post it.

Here's what FDM sees:
url: http://media.shanaproject.com/torrents/ ... kv.torrent

There are "%" in the file name url as well but doesn't show up when I post it.

Save as sees:
[HorribleSubs] Boku no Kanojo ga Majimesugiru Sho-bitch na Ken - 05 [1080p].mkv.torrent

This is what utorrent sees if I cancel the FDM option:
[HorribleSubs] Boku no Kanojo ga Majimesugiru Sho-bitch na Ken - 05 [1080p].mkv.torrent

So for some reason in doing the cancel FDM causes FF to save the url as a file.

Please update your Firefox extension but right clicking on it in your browser, choosing update extension and restarting the browser. The version of extension should be at least 3.0.5 then.
Try it.
