How to report a bug or a problem

Postby Alex » Wed Jul 13, 2011 4:29 am

If you have a problem using FDM and wanting to report it, please try to provide the detailed description, as your report will be probably useless instead.

1. General description of a problem.
2. Optional, but is required sometimes. What steps will reproduce the problem?
3. Optional. What do you expect from FDM instead?
4. What OS and browser you use, including their versions and bitness (32/64-bit).
5. What is the version of FDM.
6. Optional, but is required sometimes. Additional specific information.
For example, URL of page where you encounter the problem, URL of a download, detailed log of downloading (it must be enabled before download starts, see Options | Settings | Downloads | Detailed log). To get the log from FDM go Log tab, right click on log and choose "Copy to clipboard".
Warning: if you use login for your download, do not post the detailed log on the forum as it contains your login information. Send it to me via private message instead. See also FDM FAQ.

If you still have doubts about needed details, read general rules "How to Report Bugs Effectively" before posting your report, please.

If anything is still unclear, read "How To Ask Questions The Smart Way" before asking, please.

Sample report (free style for advanced users, common users may provide the same data strictly in the order suggested by the reporting rules above)

Download page URL: http://mp3tag.de/en/download.html
Direct download URL: http://mp3tag.de/mp3tagv268setup.exe

Actions proposed: open your browser, go to the download page, click the direct download URL, let FDM to catch the download.
Alternate actions: copy-and-paste direct download URL into your FDM.
Result expected: exe file will be downloaded.
Result reported: download.html file downloaded instead.

Test PC: Windows XP SP3 fully updated; Windows Defender and system firewall only, no additional firewall, AV or security suite; connected via router (fully updated firmware) to a cable TV Internet provider.
FDM 3.9.5 build 1519 set to:
- Automatically remove completed downloads from list
- Rename, if the file already exists
- Generate file name automatically

* IE8 works OK, log provided below
