I really like FDM and the fact that it's OSS (which I like to believe makes it more trustworthy) but it's becoming riddled with bugs and flaws.

I've listed some before along with other people and some bugs I thought were just my bogged down system, though since moving to Windows 7 I still have the old ones and new ones, it's now gotten to the point where every part of FDM I use seems to have some kind of bug.

I sincerely hope you guys start prioritising bugs because it's getting out of hand. Currently it seems like a lot of complaints/reports are ignored which is sad as the people making them here are fans of FDM (no matter how much they might complain), if they weren't and didn't care they wouldn't bother taking the time to complain. They're also like free beta-testers so the least you could do is acknowledge complains/reports.

You really should start practising killing all known bugs before even thinking of adding new features, besides first impressions last so many new users are going to just forget about FDM when they hit bugs.

Regardless this weekend I'm going to be looking for a new download manager to replace FDM because I'm to tired of doing "legwork" to avoid or compensate for the bugs. Even at free OSS, it's no longer worth it.

:(

First, please check this version:
http://freedownloadmanager.org/board/vi ... hp?t=11860
Some bugs may be fixed in it.
Secondly, if you still have the problem(s), please post them here. I'll try to look.
All users are welcome to post the bugs here. But please do not post descriptions in the generic words. Descriptions should be much enough to reproduce them on my side. Also provide the information about your OS, browser, firewall and antivirus software (name and version) you use (if any).

If FDM is minimized to tray before exit, it will start minimized in the tray disregarding the "Start minimized" option.

It's not a bug.

It's not a bug.

It's a usability quirk. It's logical for the user to imply that the program will start in a normal/maximized window if the "Start minimized" option is unchecked. (You may refer to the behaviour of programs such as µTorrent, eMule and FlashGet.)

It would be better for us to call it "start minimized always" then.

You have a point but I still think it's best to let the user decide whether the program should start normally/minimized (as per the other programs' behaviour). What do you think?

Hi!

First of all, sorry for my poor English, i'm french :D

I have a problem with megaupload and files with accents or punctuations.

And unfortunately (in frenche :(), there are lots of word (file, link, etc...) with accents or ponctuations like à é è ù ' etc...

If i try to download this file with megaupload for example:
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=RAKQQSB7

The download starts. The filename should be : "[By Guillaume57] L'Emmerdeur - F..avi"
But its "[By Guillaume57] L&". FDM doesn't converts the megaupload link correctly, and cut everything (even the extension) after the first accent or punctuation.

I hope, you understand me clearly :D

What can i do?

Thanx!

Oops, this is the right post for bugs?

And, this bug is only for megaupload link for now.

With direct link, no problem.

Hello! Thank you for a great product!

I'm using 3.0 build 848 with firefox 3.5.5 and think I have found two bugs, both in the file name decoding from a "content-disposition"-header.

I'm testing with a file name with Swedish characters, encoded in UTF-8: "Teståä.moz".

Quote:
Content-disposition: attachment; filename==?UTF-8?Q?Test=C3=A5=C3=A4.moz?=;

If the file name is encoded with "quoted printable" the file name will be saved as "= UTF-8 Q Tes=C3=A5=C3=A4.moz =". (only the question-marks has been removed)

Quote:
Content-disposition: attachment; filename==?UTF-8?B?VGVzdMOlw6QubW96?=;

If the file name is sent as base64 it works better, but sometimes an extra random character is added . It's like the base64 decoder has a problem with the last char.

Below you find a test php script:

Code:
<?php
        #$scheme = "B"; // Base 64 encoded
        $scheme = "Q"; // quoted-printable encoding

        $filename = "Test\xC3\xA5\xC3\xA4.moz";
        $utf8_filename = substr(
                iconv_mime_encode  (
                        ""  ,
                        $filename ,
                        array(
                                "input-charset"=>"UTF-8",
                                "output-charset"=>"UTF-8",
                                "scheme"=>$scheme
                        )
                ),
                2
        );
        header("Content-Type: text/plain;");
        header("Content-disposition: attachment; filename=$utf8_filename;");
        header("Content-transfer-encodig: binary;");
        echo "TESTING = $utf8_filename";
?>

Another example of how not to do things. One thread for bug reporting? Clearly shows a continued lack of interest when it comes to bugs. Also I will never allow any bug reports to be submitted from anything as long as it's not in plain text, period.

I reinstalled FDM and again ran into constant crashes and bugs (how these are being missed is beyond me). As long as bugs aren't taken seriously I can't be bothered to list them nevermind go into detail or help solving them.

Perhaps in a few months, if I can be bothered, I'll try FDM again, though I'll probably have settled into something far less shoddy by then.

Sorry but I've had enough which is a real shame, goodbye.

I must admit that I'm really getting to the end of my tether as well. I have been using FDM for a long time and I LOVE it. It's a really good application, but it has this one annoying bug that will be the cause of me not continuing use of it.

At random, the fdm.exe process jumps to 25% CPU usage and the whole program freezes up. I can't do anything and I have to shut it down, uninstall and reinstall it - losing all the incomplete downloads I had queued.

I have lost GIGS of bandwidth like this and I'm getting to a point where the useful features of this application are seriously starting to lose the battle.

A real pity.
