Editor review of Computer Activity Monitoring |
2008-04-25 |
Computer Activity Monitoring is a fine snooping utility designed to monitor the usage of networked computers, which can be quite useful for those employers who don't trust their employees.
The application's installation package includes the viewer and the agent, the former used as the control center and the latter installed on users' PCs to monitor their activity.
The program's interface is very comprehensible and offers a remarkably simple way to control the usage of the PCs joined in the network. To begin with, the agent can be effortlessly installed on many machines at once right from the viewer interface in a matter of seconds. All you will have to do is to choose the PCs, where the agent should be installed, from the list populated by the software. What's more, users will never guess that the activity of their PCs is monitored unless they search for the program files purposely. And even in that case, deleting those files is not a possibility.
The things the app can do and the easiness it does them with are really impressive. These include monitoring several computers at once, viewing the screen activity of other computers on-line, recording it (even if the viewer hosting computer is offline), sending messages to networked users and managing computers to some extent (for instance running the screensaver, blocking the computer, rebooting it, turning it off, etc).
On the downside, the application does not provide any logs or statistics after monitoring. You will either need to sit in front of the PC for hours viewing others' activity on-line or devote a considerable amount of time to watching all recorded videos. To add to that, the viewer is not password protected, which may not be a good thing if you leave your computer unattended. |
