FDM download repeatedly restarts and fails, Firefox DL works
Hi all,
I've often have the problem that FDM doesn't succeed to download a file. In the log there are many restarting entries:
10:57:00 27.02.2008 Checking if download is malicious (see options to disable this)
10:57:01 27.02.2008 OK, FDM's users did not report that this download is malicious

When I start and cancel directly another FDM download and use Firefox's builtin download manger then I get the file immediately.

Yes, I've been having this problem for quite a while now - it's also been recently discussed on the Kaspersky Forums, as several users (including myself) thought it might be due to an interaction with Firewall or AV scanning in the latest Kaspersky AntiVirus/Internet Security products.
But, fingers crossed, the latest release of FDM (Version 2.5 Build 755) seems to be working OK at the moment! However, it would be nice if Alex could perhaps have a look into this problem - there was a comment in the Release Notes for one of the most recent builds which suggested there was a known issue.

I used the latest version (2.5 build 755) when downloading the file I mentioned in my previous note. I did stop the download and I succeeded finally at 14:16 (see log entries below). I've alos seen this behaviour in some version before too.

I spoke too soon - the restart problem has appeared again today!

Degrading speeds
I'm running 2.5, build 753 under XP Pro.
I downloaded DM just a couple of days ago, and loved it. Then the download speeds started degrading. Yesterday, I downloaded http://www.energystar.gov/index.cfm?fus ... ovementPDF
in a few minutes. Today, it's downloading one byte at a time.
I'm using McAfee VirusScan.
Anyone else having similar problems? Any suggestions?

Interesting that you use McAfee - a number of us Kaspersky Internet Security users have been assuming that it was something to do with the Kaspersky program blocking downloads.
I use Avira Antivir Personal edition classic or something like that and I get that problem too.
It all goes well, starts downloading, for example, my list of 20, and then stops half way with a similar output... If another file was already downloading it'll finish but then it becomes stuck until restart.

Did you have other downloads running at that time?
Alex,

I have the same problem:
If started one or more downloads everything is working fine,
but if I stopped or paused the download and restarted it,
the download speed is 1 byte per second!!!
To solve the problem, I have to terminated FDM completely and then after a restart
the uncompleted downloads are continued with full speed.
I'm using Windows XP and Kaspersky Internet Suite 7.0
