I just see that there already is a topic about this and the Firefox update has broken both 3.9.7 and 5.x

Problem,

FDM will not monitor Browser downloads anymore.

Downloading a Zip from a link will not open FDM but the build-in downloader.

Already Removed the add-on, disabled browser monitoring, re-enabled it but no effect.

Clipboard monitoring works.

Any clues to what is going on.

Thx

Posters reported FDM Plugin broken with Firefox Developer 51 and Beta 51 in this Topic, mid Nov 2016. Dev. posted in past only Firefox Releases supported. Firefox 51 Releases 1-2 days ago and users of FDM 3.9.7 who automatically converted to it (probably most) are finding FDM Plugin monitoring has ceased. What a surprise!
Too bad, continued support for 3.9.7 appears to be little more than; fixes will be worked on after FDM 3.9.7 users report they cannot monitor downloads with a new Firefox Release. Surely a fix could have been worked on and ready, in time for Firefox 51 Release. Not much to ask for after 2 months early warning of this impending issue.

Until they re-up the coding for both products I would suggest going to FDM's main menu and invoking the Drop box option. Then whether you use a VPN or unrestricted downloader, like All-Debrid, Grab-8 or Real-Debrid, it just takes a second to move the link to the Drop Box, invoking FDM's dialogue box and download as normal.
The main fault seems that new features of Firefox v51.x.x + , breaks the current extension as it is. You'll have to wait for the author[s] of one or the other or both to fix it. Perhaps someone in the open source community may find the answer, myself, its been years and if you don't use it, you lose it.

I chose to go back to Firefox 50.1.0. Hopefully they will fix the issue soon.

Dear developers,
I've found a new bug - FDM closes automatically by itself.
Steps to reproduce this bug -
1. Open latest firefox in private window
2. Try to download anything ( I've tested with various file sharing sites and youtube )
3. Press download when the link is cached and let the download begin
4. Close the firefox window
Step 4 is where this occurs; as soon as the firefox window is closed FDM also closes by itself. This had never happened before until I updated FDM to latest version. BTW this doesn't happen when FDM is already opened before opening firefox window.

System information -

Free Download Manager Version 5.1.23.5672 (8b3722c) (64 bit)

OS - Microsoft Windows 10 pro x64

Browser - Mozilla Firefox 51.0.1 (64 bit)

Waiting for response & please let me know if more details are need to be provided.

Regards

They fixed it this morning, at least from my machine, Drop box no longer needed!

Dear Users!

To fix the problem with Firefox 51, please upgrade to FDM_3.9.7_1631 and restart the browser to update the FDM extension to version 2.2.3.

After installing 3.9.7 build 1631, I get this error message in Firefox. "Free Download Manager extension could not be verified for use in Firefox and has been disabled." Extension is 2.2.3

I've tried this in both FF v50 & 51.

I got it working by uninstalling FDM, zapping all folders associated with FDM then reinstalling build 1631.

I have updated to FDM v3.9.7_1631 and my browser extension is v2.2.3. Although I can now see FDM in my browser context menu, FDM isn't picking any downloads - clicking any of the context menus does nothing, clicking the 'Download with FDM' button over videos does nothing and all downloads are directly captured by my browser without FDM picking them up.

I'm on Firefox v53.0a2 32bit, on Windows 10 64bit. I am aware that prerelease versions aren't supported, but FDM used to work just fine with the Developer Edition until v51 and with the latest FDM update, it is clear that some features of the extension are working; just hoping that the extension can actually capture downloads too.
